July was the ACTS Combat Rifle Championship. Wow, this was my first CRC and I really stunk it up. I finished way down the list but it was a great weekend. My gun malfunctioned alot. I was using a different gun that had been functioning fine till then. I really need to get some plain range time to work the bugs out of both my rifles. I finally got some of the video ready, sorry about the camera jumping around so much, but I was zoomed in pretty far on some of the shots.

Here are a few snipets from T-fin04’s write up over on arfcom.

“AAR: ACTS 2009 Combat Rifle Championship

Who:
The American Confederation of Tactical Shooters (www.actshooters.com) is a group started with the idea of a shooting competition that stuck as close to ‘real world’ scenarios as possible. At the risk of offending some people reading this who may fit this mold, ACTS members are shooters, not gamers. These aren’t guys who show up to the range unarmed, don their space age speed holsters and $5000 pistols with more time spent on adjusting the trigger than I spend cleaning my gun in a year. ACTS is a group of people who carry firearms every day either for their job or personal protection. It is a group who understand that operating a firearm efficiently is a perishable skill and want to practice their craft. More than that, ACTS is a social group of some of the best people I’ve ever met. We’re a close knit group but growing every year and very accepting of new shooters trying out our brand of fun.

What:
Once a year, ACTS puts on an all weekend prize match known as the Combat Rifle Championship. It’s two days of shooting, eating, and hanging out with a lot of good people.

Prizes are very graciously donated by sponsors all over the industry. Our prize table this year included four complete firearms from S&W, Varminter upper receiver from Bushmaster, 1k rounds of Black Hills Ammo, dozens and dozens of pmags, training certificates to some big name schools, among all other sorts of goodies.

When:
July 11th and 12th, 2009.

Where:
Matches are held on the second Saturday of every month, rain or shine (save lightening). Matches are held at Centerline Gun Club (www.centerlineofcalhoun.org).

Why:
The CRC is a time to kick back and enjoy good food, good people, and hopefully win some really cool stuff.

What I expected:
This is only my second CRC. Last years event included a ton of shooting, some very challenging stages and awesome props like shooting from a moving vehicle. The prize table was absolutely stocked with gear and I was lucky enough to walk away with some awesome gear. With the economy in the dump I expected the prize table to be a bit smaller, but the CRC Organizational Committee really pulled through and was able to bring a ton of sponsors to this event.

What actually happened:
This years event was much the same. A total of 9 stages were shot over the weekend by close to 50 shooters. It created long days, but the weather was beautiful and spending time on the range talking guns and gear is always a good time.”

“Stages were again very challenging, both physically and mentally. I like being pushed as far as safely possible and ACTS is always good for that. We shot from vehicles, down hallways, crawled under/over/around barricades, and with the way the stages were designed, just about every skill in the shooters toolbox was tested.”

“Closing thoughts:
Overall this was an excellent event. I think every shooter who finished the match at least made their entrance fee back in swag and prizes. Top shooters walked away with some really cool rifles and pistols. I was happy with my performance on 8 of the 9 stages for the weekend. I made a fundamental error on one stage which really hurt my overall score. Everything boils down to the basics, live and learn I guess.

Scores are posted at www.actshooters.com/results

HUGE THANK YOU TO THE MATCH DIRECTOR, RANGE SAFETY OFFICERS, STAFF OF CENTERLINE, ALL THE SPONSORS AND EVERYONE ELSE WHO HAD A HAND IN PLANNING THIS EVENT!”

T is a great shooter, he took second in his class. You can view his entire post at T’s arfcom post. He has some cool video and stills posted too.
