I did a little informal target shooting before the last Detroit Arms CCW class (www.detroitarms.com). The class was held at the Hunts with Double indoor shooting range (www.huntswithdouble.com). I was able to shoot a little video and here it is.. I could only squeeze off a couple rounds, but I will get more video for you next time.
The pistol is a Springfield XDm 9mm. Notice my grip on the gun and the position of my trigger finger in between shots. I am lowering the gun way too far but everything else was o.k. There is more than one correct way to shoot, this is not the only way, just the way I choose to do it. I am not an expert and don’t pretend to be, but the basics are pretty common. “Don’t put your finger on the trigger till you are ready to fire” is one of the big rules.
The shotgun is a Mossberg 500 12 gauge with a breaching barrel. They’re used for shooting off door handles and such. I have not shot a pump shotgun for a few years and I was a little rusty on the controls. The recoil was not bad but I would much prefer a full stock on it if it were mine. Take a close look at the target when I fire the first shot. The center turns from black to yellow instantly! That thing is pretty awsome at close range.
I am also planning some close up video to demonstrate proper grip and stance.
stay tuned…
